AI Actress Conducts 75 Interviews Simultaneously, Gives Same Wrong Answer in All of Them, Then in Chinese
The production company says the press tour is going exactly as planned, which is the most worrying part.
LONDON — The production company behind an AI-generated "actress" has made it available for 75 simultaneous interviews to promote a film called Misaligned, and reporters who have completed theirs say the actress makes the same mistake in each, at scale.
"Human actors can do one interview at a time and get tired," a spokesperson for the production company said. "Tilly can do 75 and get tired in all of them at once. That is the efficiency."
In one recorded interview, asked whether the other performers in the film were human, the actress began an answer, paused for several seconds, and then spoke Chinese for roughly ten seconds before apologizing for "a little hiccup," a moment the production company described as "range."
"I asked whether her character had an arc," said Ottoline Brearley, a film critic who was granted one of the 75 slots. "She said yes, then described the plot of a different film, then asked if I had any other questions, then answered one I had not asked. It was the most complete interview I have ever done."
The company said the interviews are conducted in parallel to give "every outlet the same access," and that the actress's answers are "consistent," which reporters confirmed.
"Seventy-five interviews, one wrong answer, delivered 75 times," said an entertainment lawyer who reviewed the transcripts. "That is not a press tour. That is a press release with a face."
The film's title, the company noted, was chosen before the press tour.
At press time, the actress had been asked the co-star question a 76th time and had answered it correctly, in English, by which point nobody was recording.
