Salesforce Unveils Headless 360, Formalizing How Most Enterprise Software Is Already Purchased

The platform removes the need for a human interface, a human decision, or a human who knows what was bought.

SAN FRANCISCO — Salesforce announced a product called Headless 360 at its annual conference this week, which company executives described as "the first enterprise platform designed from the ground up to be operated with no one at the top."

The product, part of what the company calls an Enterprise AI Harness, lets AI agents interact with customer data, workflows and business logic directly, without a screen. Executives said it was the natural next step for a category of software that has, for decades, been purchased by people who would never see the screen anyway.

"Our research showed that 71 percent of enterprise software licenses are never logged into by a human," said a Salesforce spokesperson. "We asked ourselves, why are we still building a user interface for them? It is disrespectful to the licenses."

The announcement came alongside a second new layer, AIforce, which sits above the existing layers and below the forthcoming layers. Analysts at the event struggled to diagram the full stack, with one producing a whiteboard sketch that the audience described as "a lasagna that sells lasagna."

"I have been to 14 of these conferences," said Wilhelmina Adebayo-Frost, a CRM consultant in Denver. "Every year they announce the thing that will finally let me stop configuring the thing they announced the year before. This year the thing has no head. Honestly, it is the most relatable product they have ever made."

According to a company case study, one early customer, a mid-sized insurer, used Headless 360 to route 40,000 customer inquiries to agents, which routed them to other agents, which opened 40,000 cases that were resolved by a third set of agents marking them as duplicates.

At press time, a procurement department had signed a three-year contract for Headless 360 after a 45-minute demo that nobody on the call could later describe.
